PRAYER FOR PEOPLE IN PATH OF GUSTAV

New Orleans gets ready and gets out ahead as Hurricane Gustav nears monster status

By BECKY BOHRER, Associated Press Writer

NEW ORLEANS (Associated Press) -- A million people took to Gulf Coast highways Saturday, boarding up homes and businesses and fleeing dangerous Hurricane Gustav by bus and automobile as the season's most powerful Atlantic storm took aim at Louisiana.

Even forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said they were surprised at how quickly Gustav gained strength as it charged toward Cuba. It went from a tropical storm to a Category 4 hurricane in about 24 hours, and was likely to become a Category 5 _ with sustained winds of 160 mph or more _ by Sunday.

"That puts a different light on our evacuations and hopefully that will send a very clear message to the people in the Gulf Coast to really pay attention," said Federal Emergency Management Agency chief David Paulison.

Gustav had already killed more than 80 people in the Caribbean, and if current forecasts hold up, it would make landfall early Tuesday morning along Louisiana's central coast.

That would spare New Orleans from a direct hit, but forecasters warned it was still too soon to say exactly where the storm will go. Residents weren't taking any chances judging by the bumper-to-bumper traffic pouring from the city. Gas stations along interstate highways were running out of fuel, and phone circuits were jammed.

A mandatory evacuation order was expected as early as Saturday night. Hotels closed, and the New Orleans airport prepared to follow suit. Mayor Ray Nagin, saying the danger to the city was growing, told tourists to leave.

As part of the evacuation plan New Orleans developed after Hurricane Katrina, residents who had no other way to get out of the city waited on a line that snaked for more than a mile through the parking lot of the city's Union Passenger Terminal. From there, they were to board motor coaches bound for shelters in north Louisiana.

"I don't like it," said Joseph Jones Jr., 61, who draped a towel over his head to block the blazing sun. "Going someplace you don't know, people you don't know. And then when you come back, is your house going to be OK?"

Jones had been in line for 2 1/2 hours, but he wasn't complaining. During Katrina, he'd been stranded on a highway overpass.

Others led children or pushed strollers with one hand and pulled luggage with the other. Volunteers handed out bottled water, and medics were nearby in case people became sick from the heat.

Unlike Katrina, when thousands took refuge inside the Superdome, there will be no "last resort" shelter, and those who stay behind accept "all responsibility for themselves and their loved ones," said the city's emergency preparedness director, Jerry Sneed.

Yet the presence of 2,000 National Guard troops that were expected to join 1,400 New Orleans police officers patrolling the streets following the evacuation _ along with Gov. Bobby Jindal's request to neighboring states for rescue teams _ suggested officials were expecting stragglers.

Standing outside his restaurant in the city's Faubourg Marigny district, Dale DeBruyne prepared for Gustav the way he did for Katrina _ stubbornly.

"I'm not leaving," he said.

DeBruyne, 52, said his house was stocked with storm supplies, including generators.

"I stayed for Katrina," he said, "and I'll stay again."

Others were taking no chances.

Lee Isaacson, 52, a computer consultant, was boarding up windows in his home, which flooded during Katrina. He planned to take his family to North Carolina.

"We're doing this more for looters than the storm," Isaacson said, recalling the chaos that followed Katrina. "I don't think the hurricane will break them, but I don't want someone breaking in."

Many residents said the evacuation was more orderly than Katrina, although a plan to electronically log and track evacuees with a bar code system failed and was aborted to keep the buses moving. Officials said information on evacuees would be taken when they reached their destinations.

Advocates criticized the decision not to establish a shelter, warning that day laborers and the poorest residents will fall through the cracks.

About two dozen Hispanic men gathered under oak trees near Claiborne Avenue, where on better days they would be waiting for work rebuilding from Katrina. They were wary of boarding any bus, even though a city spokesman said no identity papers would be required.

"The problem is," said Pictor Soto, 44, of Peru, "there will be immigration people there and we're all undocumented."

Father west, where Gustav appeared more likely to make landfall, Guard troops were also being sent to Lake Charles. But the state's ports and oil refineries were still operating and had no plans to shut down.

Authorities in Mississippi, also battered by Katrina, had already begun evacuating the mentally ill and aged from facilities along the coast, and East Texas counties were making arrangements to do the same.

National Guard soldiers on Mississippi's coast were going door-to-door to alert thousands of families in FEMA trailers and cottages that they should be prepared to evacuate Sunday.

In Alabama, shelters were opened and 3,000 National Guard personnel assembled to help evacuees from Mississippi and Louisiana.

"If we don't get the wind and rain, we stand ready to help them," Gov. Bob Riley said.

WHAT IS THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

I AM NOT EVEN PRETENDING TO HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE ON THIS I AM ASKING THIS QUESTION
i AM READING SOME SCRIPTURE ON IT AND HAD A CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE ABOUT IT YESTERDAY.

Acts 19:1-2 (New King James Version)
New King James Version (NKJV)

[NKJV at Thomas Nelson] [Thomas Nelson, Inc.]

Acts 19
Paul at Ephesus
1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

IS NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT WHAT LEADS US TO CHRIST IN THE FIRST PLACE AND DO WE NOT RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN WE ARE SAVED?

DO YOU HAVE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES TO BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?

ARE TONGUES FOR TODAY?

IF TONGUES ARE FOR TODAY WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF IT.?

OK IM JUST ASKING THESE QUESTIONS BECAUSE I AM TRYING TO UNDERSTAND LIKE I SAID I DO NOT KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT IT.

What Does God Say about Suicide

Does a Christian who commits suicide go to hell?

This is From gotquestions.org

Why should I not commit suicide?

why not commit suicide

Question: "Why should I not commit suicide?"

Answer: My heart goes out to those who have thoughts of ending their own lives through suicide. If that is you right now, it may speak of many emotions, such as feelings of hopelessness and despair. You may feel like you are in the deepest pit, and you doubt there is a ray of hope that things can get better. No one seems to care or understand where you're coming from. Life just isn't worth living...or is it?

Debilitating emotions are experienced by many at some time or another. Questions brought to my mind when I was in an emotional pit were, "Could this ever be the will of God, who created me?" "Is God too small to help me?" "Are my problems too big for Him?"

I am happy to tell you that if you will take a few moments to consider letting God truly be God in your life right now, He will prove just how big He really is! "For nothing will be impossible with God" (Luke 1:37). Perhaps scars from past hurts have resulted in an overwhelming sense of rejection or abandonment. That may lead to self-pity, anger, bitterness, vengeful thoughts or ways, unhealthy fears, etc., that have caused problems in some of your most important relationships. However, suicide would only serve to bring devastation to loved ones you never intend to hurt; emotional scars that will have to be dealt with the rest of their lives.

Why should you not commit suicide? Friend, no matter how bad things are in your life, there is a God of love who is waiting for you to let Him guide you through your tunnel of despair, and out into His marvelous light. He is your sure hope. His name is Jesus.

This Jesus, the sinless Son of God, identifies with you in your time of rejection and humiliation. The prophet, Isaiah, wrote of Him, "He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him. Nor appearance, that we should be attracted to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men. A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely your griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His stripes (whipping) we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray. Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him" (Isaiah 53:2-6).

Friend, all this Jesus Christ endured in order that you might have all your sins forgiven! Whatever weight of guilt you carry around with you, know that He will forgive you if you humbly repent (turn from your sins, to God). "Call upon Me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you (set you free), and you will glorify Me (Psalm 50:15). Nothing you have ever done is too bad for Jesus to forgive. Some of His choicest servants in the Bible committed gross sins, like, murder (Moses), adultery (King David), and physical and emotional abuse (the Apostle Paul). Yet, they found forgiveness and a new abundant life in the Lord. "Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin" (Psalm 51:2). "Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things are passed away; behold, new things have come" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Why should you not commit suicide? Friend, God stands ready to repair what is "broken"... namely, the life you have now, that you want to end by suicide. The prophet Isaiah wrote: "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and freedom to prisoners...to comfort all who mourn; To grant those who mourn...Giving them a garland (crown of beauty) instead of ashes; The oil of gladness instead of mourning; The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified" (Isaiah 61:1-3).

Come to Jesus, and let Him restore your joy and usefulness as you trust Him to begin a new work in your life. "Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit. "O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Thy praise. For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise" (Psalm 51:12, 15-17).

I would like to know what you think about this!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DON'T LIKE OBAMA BUT NO ONE SHOULD KILL HIM

Arrests Made in Possible Plot Against Barack Obama
August 25, 2008, 5:17 PM PDT

Arrests Made in Possible Plot Against Barack Obama AURORA, CO -- Law enforcement authorities have arrested two men and several law enforcement sources say the investigation is looking into whether the suspects intended to harm presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama.

According to multiple sources, Aurora police made a routine traffic stop Sunday morning at 2:38 a.m. and arrested 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell, who reportedly was driving a rented pickup truck. The Secret Service says two rifles were found in his truck along with methamphetamine. Another law enforcement source says he was told at least one of the rifles was a "sniper rifle."

A second source said authorities told officers they are concerned they may have come upon a possible "assassination plot."

That arrest then led authorities to a second man staying at the Cherry Creek Hotel at 600 South Colorado Blvd in Glendale. Authorities say when they knocked on the man's door he jumped out of his sixth floor window, landing on an awning and running from the scene. They say they soon found him with a broken ankle. He too was arrested.

Its unclear precisely why authorities suspect the men were targeting Barack Obama, but one of the officer's who was briefed says he was told at least one of the suspects made statements to that effect.

The Secret Service, ATF and the FBI are all involved in the investigation. A Secret Service spokesman says the agency is concerned by the proximity to the convention and the items found in the man's car.

The Aurora Police Department says it will not release any reports on the incident, at the request of federal authorities.

TAKING THOUGHTS CAPTIVE

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ
.

AS YOU ALL KNOW I AM NO BIBLE TEACHER. I JUST ADD MY THOUGHTS WHICH SOMETIMES WELL LETS JUST SAY... ARE SHALLOW NOT REAL DEEP. BUT I TRY..

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON THIS... TAKING CAPTIVE TO ME SOUNDS LIKE WE ARE TO ARREST OUR THOUGHTS THAT DO NOT LINE UP WITH GODS WORD. WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DO IN MY LIFE IS WHEN DEPRESSION COMES AND NEGATIVE THOUGHTS COME I TRY TO COME AGAINST THEM WITH WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT ME.

LIKE WHEN I THINK I AM WORTHLESS.....GOD SAYS I AM BOUGHT WITH A PRICE
GOD DOES NOT EVER THINK ABOUT ME......HIS THOUGHTS OF ME ARE LIKE THE GRAINS OF SAND
LONELY..... HE IS FRIED WHO STICKS CLOSER THAN BROTHER
DEPRESSED................... THE JOY OF THE LORD IS MY STRENTH

OK ,,,,, OKIE AND DAVE IF YOU READ THIS YOU CAN HELP ME OUT WITH THE DEEPER THINGS.

WISH YOU COULD CONTROL YOUR MOUTH

James 3:8
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

I WISH I WOULD OF REREAD THIS PASSAGE YESTERDAY BEFORE I OPENED MY BIG MOUTH.

THERE IS AN ISSUE I AM DEALING WITH , WITH TWO OF MY FRIENDS. AND I WISH I WOULD THINK BEFORE I OPEN MY MOUTH. I SAID SOME THINGS IN ANGER THAT SHOULD OF NEVER BEEN SAID. AND EVEN THOUGH YOU SAY YOU ARE SORRY THOSE WORDS CAN NEVER REALLY BE TAKEN BACK. I WAS HURT SO I FOUGHT BACK WITH WORDS. I AM NOT PROUD OF THIS AND HAVE REPENTED FOR IT AND PRAY GOD WILL BRING A HEALING OF THIS FRIENDSHIP. YES THEY SAID STUFF TOO. BUT I AM ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT I SAY. AND THAT IS WHAT I HAVE SOUGHT GOD ON TO ASK HIM TO HELP ME IN THE FUTURE TO THINK BEFORE I TALK. I COULD SIT HERE AND TRY TO JUSTIFY WHY I SAID THEM THE FACT IS I SAID THEM AND SHOULD NEVER OF SAID THEM I SHOULD JUST KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT AND LET GOD WORK IT OUT. AHHHH WHEN WILL I LEARN?
