Hi Mary,
I am going to give you the long answer first. When I was a child, my minister said that we should all be reading through the Bible yearly. So I started at the beginning, Genesis, and read to Revelation. Interpret the NT through the OT, not the other way around.
Short answer: God said all of the world would be blessed through Israel (Jacob) and that the Messiah, who would save the world, would come through his seed.
Hard to believe, but the Jews will come to believe in Jesus.
There is much more to this, but I need to start heading to bed.
